# Support for Trustees & Estate Professionals

A trustee with a struggling beneficiary has to hold two things at once: the duty to the trust and the welfare of a person. Torchlight gives the trustee a neutral, non-clinical party to do the practical work and a documented record to act on.

## When trustees engage Torchlight

- Distributions are conditioned on treatment, sobriety, or participation in a recovery plan, and the trustee needs verified information rather than assurances
- A beneficiary is refusing help and the family is asking the trustee to act
- A beneficiary's spending or conduct is putting them at risk and the trustee needs a way to intervene that is not the trustee
- Family members are in conflict over what should happen next

## What Torchlight provides

- An intervention led by a professional rather than by the trustee or a relative
- Treatment placement and Safe Passage transport
- Collaborative Continuing Care with weekly contact and tracked attendance
- Alcohol and drug monitoring with results reported to the parties named in the beneficiary's release
- Family meetings and a family Care Coordinator, separate from the beneficiary's
- Reporting on the cadence the trustee needs, within the release

## Scope and boundaries

Torchlight does not interpret trust instruments, advise on distributions, assess capacity, or give clinical opinions. We supply verified, contemporaneous information about treatment engagement and monitoring results; what the trustee does with it is the trustee's decision, with counsel.

## How an engagement starts

1. **Call John** — A 30-minute call to establish what decision the situation needs, who is involved, and what is already in place.
2. **Confirm fit and scope** — John confirms what Torchlight can and cannot report, and what release the beneficiary will need to sign.
3. **Set the next action** — Assessment, intervention, placement, transport, monitoring, or continuing care, in the order the situation requires. If another provider should lead, John says so and makes the referral.
4. **Report as agreed** — Attendance and monitoring results go to the parties named in the release, on the cadence agreed at intake.

## A neutral party in the room

Trustees are often the only adult in a family willing to say no. Torchlight takes that role off the trustee and gives it to a professional whose job it is, so the trustee relationship survives the recovery.
